Tessa arrived at Phyllis’s home expecting a family lunch, but quickly realized something was wrong when Garrett pushed a pen toward her beside a leather folder containing property documents. Phyllis described the paperwork as a simple formality before the baby arrived, with an unfamiliar notary waiting to witness the signature. Tessa refused to sign. Moments later, Sierra appeared with red-rimmed eyes, accompanied by Tessa’s lawyer, Lauren. Sierra revealed that she had contacted the lawyer after discovering Garrett’s deception.
Sierra explained that Garrett’s payment card had been declined at a venue, where she learned the account belonged to a woman named Tessa. Searching online, she found Tessa’s wedding photographs and realized Garrett had lied about being divorced. She then discovered Lauren through Tessa’s photographs and reached out for help. Sierra brought messages from Garrett and Phyllis as evidence, explaining that she could not build her unborn son’s future on another woman’s suffering.
The messages exposed a calculated plan. Phyllis had prepared documents intended to transfer Tessa’s apartment into a family trust under her control. After the baby’s birth, Garrett planned to file for divorce and portray Tessa as too emotional to manage her finances. Phyllis had even described Tessa as forgetful in their messages. Their claims of business troubles were fabricated, while Garrett had secretly redirected his salary into a separate account for more than a year to pay for Sierra’s apartment.
Confronted with the evidence, the notary packed her stamp and left without signing anything. Lauren presented Garrett with divorce papers and a court order freezing his hidden account. Phyllis attempted to dismiss the situation as a misunderstanding, but no one believed her excuses. Tessa stood up, thanked Phyllis for lunch, and left with Lauren. To her surprise, Sierra accompanied her and squeezed her hand in the driveway, showing solidarity rather than hostility.
Three weeks later, Tessa gave birth to a healthy daughter named Rose. Lauren became the first person to hold the baby after Tessa. The divorce settlement awarded Tessa her apartment, child support, and repayment of the money Garrett had taken from their accounts. Sierra later gave birth to her son in the spring, creating an unexpected connection between the two women through their children.
Although Tessa and Sierra did not become close friends, they agreed that their children would grow up knowing each other. Tessa began rebuilding her life without Garrett’s manipulation or Phyllis’s control. Most importantly, she finally purchased Rose’s crib using her own money. Above it, she framed her mother’s advice, a reminder of the strength and independence that would guide her into motherhood.
