A bright spring morning turned tragic on April 2 at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, when a student was fatally stabbed during a high school track meet. The incident involved 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony of Centennial High and Memorial junior Austin Metcalf.

Witnesses say the altercation began when Karmelo sat in the wrong team’s tent. After a brief exchange, Karmelo allegedly warned Austin not to touch him. Moments later, he reportedly stabbed Austin in the chest. The attack lasted under 30 seconds.

Karmelo was arrested nearby and charged with murder. He claimed self-defense, but legal experts say that may be difficult to prove under Texas law.

Austin, a standout athlete and student, died shortly after. His twin brother, Hunter, witnessed the stabbing and tried to save him.

The tragedy has sparked questions about school safety and left a community grieving the loss of a beloved teen with a bright future.
