Trump’s tariffs just kicked in, and people are sharing their receipts

The Trump administration has imposed a standard 10% tariff on nearly every country, even remote territories like Heard Island and McDonald Islands. Michael Coon, an economics professor, called the move “unusual,” noting it’s more common in low-income countries lacking income tax infrastructure.

U.S. consumers and businesses are already feeling the impact. Wyze Cam reported paying \$255,000 in tariffs to import \$167,000 worth of products. Adafruit Industries highlighted how tariffs disrupt cash flow, unlike sales or income taxes. They faced a 125%+20%+25% markup and noted difficulties in changing suppliers due to IP restrictions.

Some businesses have paused U.S. shipments, while consumers complain about inflated prices — from suits to electronics and even luxury items. One Reddit user shared that they paid \$83.10 in tariff fees for an \$80 pre-owned Louis Vuitton wallet from Japan.

Tariffs are also affecting healthcare, raising concerns about long-term economic and consumer consequences.
