A four-year-old girl, Promise, was found alive in her Bronx apartment after surviving for days on chocolate, trapped with the bodies of her mother, Lisa Cotton (38), and her eight-year-old brother, Nazir. On May 2, Lisa’s oldest daughter went to check on them, discovering the bodies and finding Promise on the bed, eating chocolate.

Lisa had been unreachable for days, prompting her landlord to call Lisa’s father, Hubert, who was unaware of the situation. Neighbors hadn’t seen Lisa in over two weeks, but authorities hadn’t acted immediately, citing no signs of break-in or odor. When police arrived, they found Nazir’s body with “bugs crawling on it.”
