Authorities in India have confirmed that one person miraculously survived the Air India plane crash that occurred earlier on Thursday.
Flight AI 171 was headed to London Gatwick and was scheduled to arrive in the UK at 6:25 p.m. local time. Tragically, the aircraft crashed into a residential area shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport.
The crash site, located in the Meghani Nagar neighborhood, also included a hostel connected to a nearby medical college. The impact caused widespread destruction, with parts of the aircraft strewn across buildings and streets.
Air India confirmed that 242 individuals were onboard, including passengers and crew. The passenger list consisted of 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese citizens.
Emergency crews responded swiftly, pulling victims from the wreckage and tending to the wounded. At first, officials believed there were no survivors.
However, in a surprising update, one man was found alive. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is being closely monitored by medical staff.
This lone survivor’s identity has not been released publicly, but officials described his condition as stable. His survival has brought a glimmer of hope amid an otherwise devastating event.
The crash is now under investigation by aviation authorities, who are working to determine the cause of the tragedy. Meanwhile, families of the victims are being contacted, and support teams are being deployed.
As the nation mourns, this one survival story offers a small light in an otherwise dark day.
