My Husband Brought an Xbox to the Delivery Room and Invited His Friend Because He…

They say you never truly know someone until you have a child together—and for me, labor revealed everything. My husband Michael, a sweet but distracted gamer, treated my delivery day like a hangout. He arrived at the hospital with his Xbox, snacks, and even invited a friend for a Call of Duty session—while I was having contractions.

Though he’d been supportive during pregnancy, he never quite left his gaming mindset. As I struggled through labor, he joked about how “long it takes.” When his friend showed up with fast food, I was stunned—but the nurse and his mom weren’t.

His parents walked in mid-chaos. Margaret calmly ushered Michael out for a stern talk, while his father packed up the Xbox. When Michael returned, something had changed. He apologized and stayed by my side for the rest of labor.

Since then, he’s been a devoted, present father. Sometimes, it takes a wake-up call to grow up.
