Kurt Russell Opens Up About Haunting Keepsake From Val Kilmer After Filming Tombstone

Kurt Russell’s Gift from Val Kilmer Holds New Meaning After His Death

During the filming of the 1993 Western Tombstone, Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer formed a lasting friendship that endured far beyond their roles as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. In a recent interview, Russell recalled one of the most meaningful gifts he ever received — a gift that holds even deeper meaning following Kilmer’s passing.

After filming wrapped, Russell gifted Kilmer a symbolic tribute: a burial plot at Boot Hill in Tombstone, Arizona. Fitting for Kilmer’s portrayal of the doomed gunslinger. But Kilmer had a surprise of his own — he gave Russell an acre of land with a view of Boot Hill.

“Doc Holliday was all about death, but Wyatt’s all about life,” Russell reflected. “I guess that pretty much says it all.”

Val Kilmer died at 65, leaving behind a legacy that’s remembered not just for iconic lines like “I’m your huckleberry,” but for the deep bonds he created off-screen.
