Jimmy Fallon Mourns the Loss of His Beloved Dog, Gary
Jimmy Fallon, known for his humor and warmth, revealed a deeply emotional side this week as he shared that his family’s golden retriever, Gary, had passed away after 13 cherished years.
On Instagram, The Tonight Show host described Gary as more than a pet — their “first baby,” a source of laughter, love, and comfort. “She was the last name we signed on every birthday card,” Fallon wrote, capturing the bond his family shared with her.
He remembered Gary’s many roles: “a therapist, a pillow, a big sister, a schoolmarm, a comedian, a party girl, and a rebel.” His post included heartwarming photos — from puppy days to family moments with his wife, Nancy Juvonen, and their daughters, Winnie and Franny.
“The house feels emptier without you,” Fallon wrote. “Slowly, that quiet is being filled again with memories of you and laughter between the tears. Thank you for everything you gave us. Goodnight, Gary.”
He smiled through grief as he recalled her funny quirks — jumping into the pool after a bath, rolling in the grass, and leaning against anyone willing to give her a scratch. “She did this for basically everyone,” he joked.
Fallon first met Gary in 2017 when she appeared on The Tonight Show during a comedy bit. “At the time, Nancy and I were trying to have kids,” he told People. “She was a sweet distraction and soon became our family.”
The post drew heartfelt condolences from friends and fans alike. Chrissy Metz wrote, “You were all beautifully changed by one another,” while Al Roker added, “We lost our fur baby last year and it still hurts.”
For Fallon, Gary was home — love and laughter wrapped in golden fur. Though gone, her memory remains a light that will never fade. ❤️🐾
