Watch Out for This Summer Pest: The Assassin Bug
As summer approaches, pests like mosquitoes and ticks reappear—but another bug is raising concern: the assassin bug, also called the “kissing bug.”
These insects feed on blood and can transmit Chagas disease, a potentially life-threatening illness. The danger lies in their habit of defecating near the bite, allowing parasites to enter the body. Symptoms may include fever, rash, fatigue, or headaches—though many show none at all, allowing the disease to silently damage the heart over time.
Early detection through blood tests is essential. While this threat shouldn’t keep you indoors, it highlights the need for awareness. With knowledge and caution, we can safely enjoy the outdoors this summer.
