In August 2019, Jeffrey Epstein, a disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. His apparent suicide while in federal custody sparked years of speculation and conspiracy theories.
Now, for the first time, the FBI has publicly addressed the rumors. Speaking to Fox News, Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed that the agency possesses surveillance footage from the night of Epstein’s death. The footage reportedly shows no one entering or exiting his cell area, aside from a guard escorting him inside, until he was discovered unresponsive the next morning.
Attorney General Pam Bondi previously revealed that the FBI is reviewing tens of thousands of videos related to Epstein’s abuse cases, with hundreds of victims identified. She asked the public to remain patient as authorities process the massive amount of evidence.
Many conspiracy theories suggest Epstein was murdered to silence him, claiming he had a secret “client list” of powerful individuals. However, the FBI and the Department of Justice say their review found no such list, nor any evidence of blackmail or involvement of uncharged third parties.
The DOJ noted that Epstein was not reassigned a cellmate after being on suicide watch, a failure of prison protocol. Still, officials emphasized that continuing to spread unfounded theories undermines justice efforts.
The Justice Department stated, “Our priority is combating child exploitation and delivering justice to victims,” urging the public to avoid speculation and trust the evidence-led investigation.
