A tragic accident on the CE-060 highway has left the Cariri region in deep mourning after a family of three lost their lives early Sunday morning, July 16. The crash occurred on the stretch of road between the municipalities of Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte.

The victims were Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and their 3-year-old son, Miguel Nascimento Gomes. The family was traveling from Várzea Alegre to Juazeiro do Norte on what was meant to be a hopeful journey for Miguel, who was scheduled to undergo surgery.

According to reports from TV Verdes Mares and confirmation by the Ceará Military Fire Department, the accident happened around 7 a.m. The vehicle lost control while traveling along the highway.

The car veered off the road and crashed into a nearby stream close to Sítio Piripiri. The impact sent the vehicle into water approximately five meters deep.

Rescue efforts were severely hampered by the depth of the water and the difficult conditions at the site. Despite the response, all three occupants were found deceased.

Authorities have stated that the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation. Questions have been raised about road conditions and existing safety measures along this section of the CE-060.

The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, as a trip filled with hope for a child’s health ended in devastating loss. Friends, neighbors, and residents have expressed sorrow and solidarity with the grieving families.

In the wake of the incident, many are calling for improved road safety, particularly on rural highways in Brazil. The memory of Hérida, Sebastião, and young Miguel remains a painful reminder of lives lost far too soon.
