Brandon Blackstock’s Official Cause of Death Confirmed
Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, died on August 7, 2025, at age 48 from melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer. Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis confirmed the manner of death as natural.
Brandon passed peacefully under hospice care at his home in Butte, Montana, surrounded by loved ones. He had been privately battling melanoma for over three years before his passing.
His 18-year-old son, Seth, shared an emotional tribute, calling Brandon his “hero and best friend,” and recalling their hunting, fishing, and ranching memories. He expressed hope to “fish with him again someday.”
Brandon’s brother, Shelby, remembered him as “funny, bright, and full of life,” vowing to honor his memory and cherish their time together.
Country music legend Reba McEntire, Brandon’s former stepmother, referred to him as her “oldest son” in a heartfelt message, ending with “Rest in peace cowboy.” She spoke candidly about how deeply the loss had affected her.
In his final months, Brandon embraced a peaceful life on his Montana ranch, remaining active in cattle ranching and spending meaningful time with his daughter Savannah until his health declined.
Kelly Clarkson postponed her Las Vegas residency a day before his passing to focus on their children, River (11) and Remington (9). She described the time as deeply private and emotional.
Sources close to Kelly say she is devastated for her children but determined to prioritize their emotional well-being as they adjust to life without their father.
