Australian mother’s remarkable journey: 12-hour labor

Motherhood transformed Nina Tassel in the most profound way. At 37, the Australian woman became pregnant and enjoyed a smooth pregnancy — except for one unusual detail: her belly grew much larger than expected. Strangers often assumed she was carrying multiples, but all ultrasounds showed a single healthy baby.

When labor began, there wasn’t time to reach the hospital, so medics rushed to her home. The delivery was grueling — lasting 12 hours, during which Nina lost consciousness more than once.

Finally, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing an astonishing 6 kilograms (13.2 pounds) and measuring 61 centimeters (24 inches) — far above average size. Doctors believe Nina’s gestational diabetes may have contributed to his large size.

Despite the difficult birth, both mother and baby are doing well. Nina’s story is a powerful reminder of a mother’s strength and resilience — and her joy in finally holding her son is immeasurable.
