Russia respond to Donald Trump saying he threatened to ‘bomb Moscow’

Donald Trump’s stance on Russia appears to have shifted significantly. While he once praised Vladimir Putin and claimed to have a strong relationship with him, recent revelations suggest a more aggressive posture. CNN obtained an audio recording from Trump’s 2024 campaign where he reportedly said he would “bomb the sh*t out of Moscow” if Russia attacked Ukraine.

Trump told donors, “I told Putin that I would bomb the living daylights out of Moscow if he invaded Ukraine,” adding that Putin didn’t fully believe him. The former president also said he issued a similar warning to Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding Taiwan, saying Xi thought he was “crazy.”

Despite past claims of trust in Putin—Trump once said, “I think he wants peace”—his tone has changed. At a recent Cabinet meeting, Trump said, “I’m not happy with Putin. I’m not happy with them at all,” referring to Russia’s resistance to peace talks with Ukraine.

These comments mark a departure from Trump’s earlier approach, where he pledged to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours of taking office.

Russia quickly responded. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied any phone calls between Trump and Putin during that period, noting that Trump was not president at the time.

Peskov also questioned the tape’s authenticity, saying, “Fakes are common these days. We always begin with that assumption.”

Neither Trump nor his campaign has responded publicly to the leaked audio.

The timing and location of the alleged conversation remain unknown.
