Woman’s joke before bungee jump turns chillingly prophetic

What began as a joke nearly turned deadly for 22-year-old Erin Langworthy in 2012. While bungee jumping 360 feet over the Zambezi River at Victoria Falls, the cord snapped mid-jump, sending her plunging into crocodile-infested waters.

Moments earlier, Erin had jokingly written her mom, “I’ll say goodbye… only joking!” The fall knocked her unconscious. When she came to, she was underwater, disoriented, and still tethered to the broken cord.

Battling rapids and tangled rope, she miraculously swam to shore, coughing up blood and fearing for her life. Her arms-first position likely saved her from fatal injuries.

Erin was treated for lung damage and internal bruising but miraculously suffered no broken bones. The bungee operator was shocked and apologetic, and the incident drew global concern.

Zambian officials reassured the public of safety, even offering to jump with Erin again. Her mom forbade it — but Erin hasn’t completely ruled out another jump.
