Delphine, the narrator’s sister, appeared shocked when strangers arrived at the narrator’s house, pretending to discover the situation alongside her. However, the narrator soon noticed a moving-company invoice on Delphine’s kitchen counter.

The invoice revealed that Delphine had arranged the moving truck herself. She possessed the address because the narrator trusted her with it, and she had the keypad code so she could let a flooring installer inside while the narrator was away.

Delphine had expected the narrator to return later and discover her ex-husband Warren and his new wife Sabine already installed in the house. She believed the narrator would simply accept what had happened, as she had often surrendered to family pressure before.

Warren had promised Delphine fifteen thousand dollars for helping him manage the situation. His divorce had left him financially strained, and the narrator’s house, solely owned by her, was the easiest family asset to target.
