Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left royal life five years ago, moving to the US to forge their own paths. Since then, Meghan, 43, has faced increasing criticism in the UK, despite a loyal fan base. In the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, she revealed feeling blamed for Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties.
Now, royal expert Jack Royston, Newsweek’s Chief Royal Correspondent, warns that one event could further damage Meghan’s reputation: if she were to leave Harry. Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Royston said, “Imagine if Meghan left Harry, it would destroy her reputation. She would be eviscerated publicly.”
He explained that Meghan is often grouped on social media with women perceived as controlling or narcissistic. Royston added that a split would also leave Harry, 40, with little support in America, stating, “They need each other. Without Harry she’s nothing. And without her, Harry’s life in America is nothing.”
Despite these warnings, separation is not considered likely. The couple appear as in love as ever. Meghan recently shared with People that they are experiencing a “honeymoon phase” again, especially as her work projects remind them of their early days together, when Meghan was an actress and blogger.
She said, “It’s almost like a honeymoon period again… He’d watch me scribbling away, writing newsletters, fine-tuning edits. I think he loves watching as much as I love doing that creative process. It’s just been fun.”
