Mya Grimes, a 20-year-old Jackson State University student, miraculously survived being thrown from her car during an EF-3 tornado that struck St. Louis on May 16, 2025.
While driving home, her car was caught in the tornado’s path. “The car started spinning… I was praying and screaming ‘Jesus,’” Mya recalled. The windshield shattered, and she was flung 40 yards down the road.
Her mother was on the phone when Mya cried, “It’s taking me,” before the call cut off. Despite injuries, Mya crawled to a light pole and flagged down help. She was treated for minor burns and cuts.
The next day, she posted on Instagram: “I’m not lucky, I’m BLESSED. GOD KEPT ME.” Mya also urged others to turn to faith, writing, “You’re not too young, too far, too imperfect, or too late.”
What began as a normal drive became a harrowing escape and spiritual turning point.
