Police responded to a reported shooting at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital on Thursday morning, prompting a lockdown and a large emergency presence.
The incident began around 7:08 a.m., with early reports indicating it started in a parking garage on the hospital campus. Authorities quickly secured the area and urged the public to avoid the location while the situation was handled.
Officials later confirmed that both the suspect and the victim were hospital employees. The injured individual, a 25-year-old staff member, was taken to the hospital’s emergency department, stabilized, and is expected to recover.
Police were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident. At this time, authorities have not released details about a motive or what led up to the shooting.
The event temporarily disrupted normal hospital operations as safety protocols were put in place. Patients, staff, and visitors were affected during the lockdown, though services have since resumed.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the case, including any potential warning signs prior to the incident.
The shooting has also raised broader concerns about workplace safety in healthcare settings, with expectations that security procedures at the hospital will be reviewed moving forward.
