Animal rescuers from the Heart of the Forest center were baffled when they discovered a tiny, black-furred creature unlike anything they’d seen before. Photos shared online sparked wild guesses—kitten, squirrel, ferret, even a mini teddy bear.
To everyone’s surprise, the mysterious newborn turned out to be a domestic rabbit, just three to four days old. She had minor wounds and had been rescued not by a person, but by a dog who gently carried her to safety.
This confused rescuers further, as domestic rabbits are rarely found alone in the wild, especially in areas without known breeders. Unlike wild rabbits, domestic ones are born blind and hairless.
The team shared a comparison photo of wild and domestic baby bunnies to help educate the public.
Though how she ended up there remains unknown, the tiny rabbit is now safe and recovering—thanks to a dog’s instincts and a dedicated rescue team.
