Tragic NYC Helicopter Crash Claims Spanish Family
On April 10, 2025, a Bell 206 helicopter crashed into the Hudson River during a sightseeing tour, killing all six onboard. Victims included Spanish executive Agustín Escobar, his wife Mercè Camprubí, their children Víctor (4), Mercedes (8), and Agustín (10), as well as pilot Sean Johnson.
Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion and parts detaching midair. The aircraft split in two before plunging upside down into the river. Despite wearing life vests, no one survived.
The NTSB and FAA launched an investigation, though progress is hindered by missing flight data and critical parts. Experts suspect a catastrophic mechanical failure.
The family was in New York celebrating birthdays. A moving tribute from Mercè’s brother remembered them as “happy and united in the sweetest moment of their lives.”
The tragedy has sparked renewed debate over helicopter tour safety in New York City.
