A new documentary revisits the tragic crash of Germanwings Flight 9525, when co-pilot Andreas Lubitz deliberately flew the plane into the French Alps on March 24, 2015, killing all 150 on board. The flight, en route from Barcelona to Düsseldorf, became a calculated act of mass murder when Lubitz locked the cockpit door after the captain stepped out and initiated a fatal descent.
Black box recordings captured Captain Patrick Sondenheimer desperately trying to re-enter the cockpit, while Lubitz ignored air traffic control and passengers screamed in the background. Lubitz had a history of depression and had been declared unfit to fly, which he concealed from his employer.
A former girlfriend said Lubitz once vowed to “do something that will change the whole system.” His family disputes the official findings, but evidence confirmed the crash was intentional. The tragedy prompted new aviation rules requiring two people in the cockpit at all times.
