Trump Admin Launches

Following earlier federal initiatives aimed at restoring order in Washington, D.C., former President Donald Trump announced in early September the deployment of the National Guard to Memphis. The move was presented as part of a broader strategy to address rising violent crime in major U.S. cities.

The announcement coincided with the creation of a joint federal task force involving the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Department of Justice. Together with local authorities, the group launched a coordinated citywide operation on September 29.

According to a daily police report obtained by The Daily Caller, the crackdown has resulted in 2,213 arrests since its start. Officials describe the operation as one of the most intensive law enforcement efforts Memphis has seen in years.

In addition to arrests, authorities report the apprehension of 139 known gang members. Law enforcement also seized 379 firearms during the operation, a key focus of efforts to reduce gun-related violence across the city.

Another notable outcome has been the recovery of 97 missing children. Officials highlighted this result as one of the most significant and meaningful aspects of the operation, emphasizing child safety as a top priority.

Attorney General Pam Bondi praised the effort, pointing to the numbers as evidence of progress. In a statement, she said the results show Memphis is safer due to the federal surge ordered by President Trump.

Officials involved say the operation reflects a renewed emphasis on cooperation between federal, state, and local agencies. They argue that pooling resources and intelligence allows law enforcement to respond more effectively to organized crime and repeat offenders.

Supporters of the initiative say the goal extends beyond enforcement alone. By reducing violence and visible criminal activity, authorities hope to restore public trust and rebuild a sense of safety in neighborhoods long affected by persistent crime.
