Autumn Bushman was a brave, compassionate 10-year-old who stood up for others. But after months of reported bullying at her Roanoke, Virginia school, Autumn died by suicide on March 21 — a tragedy that shattered her family and community.

Her parents, Summer and Mark, said Autumn was targeted for defending classmates. As the bullying continued, her bright spirit began to fade. She withdrew, changed her behavior, and eventually asked to stay home from school due to stress.

Despite her parents alerting the school, they believe not enough was done. Now, they’re urging other families to talk to their children early — about bullying, mental health, and emotional pain.
