10th Teen Expected to Surrender in Connection to Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old

Authorities say a tenth teenager is expected to surrender in connection with the death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright in Florence County, South Carolina. Wright was fatally shot on June 24 in a remote area outside Johnsonville, in what investigators describe as a planned setup.

According to officials, Wright had been lured to the scene by his girlfriend, Gianna Kistenmacher, where a group of teens was waiting. The situation quickly escalated into violence, leaving Wright mortally wounded.

Devan Scott Raper, 19, has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Investigators say Raper had previously threatened Wright and fired multiple rounds during the confrontation. Wright succumbed to his injuries the following day. Raper remains jailed without bond.

Kistenmacher, who authorities allege helped orchestrate the meeting, has been charged with accessory before the fact and is currently under home confinement pending trial.

In addition to Raper and Kistenmacher, several other teens face charges for their roles in the deadly setup. Investigators believe some of the suspects knew Raper was armed and intentionally led Wright to the location, anticipating a confrontation.

Officials have confirmed that some of those charged are legal adults, while others are minors, whose identities remain undisclosed due to their age.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the arrests followed an extensive investigation involving digital evidence and multiple witness statements. Authorities said the group’s coordination and knowledge of the weapon point to deliberate intent rather than a spontaneous dispute.

Sheriff T.J. Joye called Wright’s death a “senseless tragedy”, urging young people to understand the lifelong consequences of violence. “A young man’s life was lost over a personal conflict that never should have escalated this far,” he said. “The entire community is grieving.”
