Faulty “Jesus Nut” May Have Caused Deadly Helicopter Crash
A tragic helicopter crash over the Hudson River claimed six lives, including a family of five visiting New York and their pilot. Aviation expert Julian Bray suggests a mechanical failure involving the “Jesus nut”—a crucial bolt that holds the rotor system together—may be to blame.
Footage shows the main rotor detaching mid-air, spinning away from the aircraft, which then plunged into the river upside down. Bray explained that if this bolt fails, the helicopter becomes uncontrollable.
The victims included Siemens Spain president Agustín Escobar, his wife, and their three young children, who were on a sightseeing tour. The Bell 206 helicopter was in the air for just 18 minutes before crashing.
An investigation is ongoing, but early evidence and eyewitness video point toward catastrophic mechanical failure rather than engine issues.
